Argoon Wind Farm

A new wind farm project in Australia

Aula Energy Invests in Argoon Wind Farm

4 October 2024

RES and Aula Energy today announced they have entered into an agreement to further develop the Argoon Wind Farm in NSW, demonstrating a shared commitment to the development of renewable energy projects in Australia.

Aula Energy was established by Macquarie Asset Management in 2023 as an Australian-headquartered renewable energy business to originate, develop, construct and operate renewable projects.

This partnership between Aula Energy and RES builds on the effective collaboration demonstrated during the development of the Murra Warra Wind Farm projects in Victoria, where RES and Macquarie’s expertise and commitment resulted in a successful large-scale wind energy solution, completed in 2022.

“We are thrilled to deepen our partnership with RES through our investment in the Argoon Wind Farm,” said Chad Hymas, CEO of Aula Energy. “This project is a testament to our shared goals and our dedication to driving the renewable energy transition, which will deliver benefits for communities in NSW and Australia more broadly.”

“We are excited to welcome Aula Energy as an investor in the Argoon Wind Farm,” said Matt Rebbeck CEO of RES in Australia. “This partnership underscores our shared commitment to the energy transition and builds on an existing collaborative working relationship. We look forward to achieving another significant milestone in renewable energy development.”

As Aula Energy and RES progress the development of the Argoon Wind Farm, they aim to deliver impactful results that will enhance energy security, promote sustainability, and drive economic growth in the region. The Project will deliver positive legacy outcomes for the local community and region during construction and operation, with community benefits sharing commitments totalling over $40m for a 612MW project over the 30-year life of the Project.

RES is looking to establish a Riverina Renewables Services Centre as a part of this project development. The Centre will comprise an operations and maintenance services hub coupled with an education and training facility. This will create a space for technicians and apprentices and offer education and work experience opportunities for locals ensuring a positive legacy for the region as a direct result of the Project.

Following preliminary environmental and social assessments and local community engagement activities, the project received Secretary’s Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARS) in December 2023. Work is now underway to prepare for EIS and EPBC assessments which we are hoping to submit in mid-2025.

The Project will also be participating in the NSW Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap - South West Renewable Energy Zone Tender process for Access Rights to the energy grid which will be key to the success of the project.
